Stages of Composting

The use of bio-solids compost as a soil conditioner results in the following :

• Increases water holding capacity.
• Increases aeration and drainage for clay soils.
• Provides organic nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
• Provides essential plant micronutrients.
• Can reduce the need for pesticides in gardening and agriculture as a soil amendment; for erosion control, land/stream reclamation, wetland construction, and as landfill cover; as a seed starting medium generally mixed with a small portion of sand for improved drainage.
